A Better Childhood programs work through two different delivery models: 1) The ABC Mobile Pantry and 2) The ABC School Pantry. The ABC Mobile Pantry is typically a monthly, outdoor approach to feeding approximately 200 households within a short window of time. Students and their families receive a variety of shelf stable and fresh foods during the distribution and take home approximately 40 pounds of food. The ABC School Pantry is a food pantry exclusively for the use of students and their families located on the school campus. Both programs are intended to provide a more readily accessible food source on a regular basis. A school may participate in one or both programs to best serve the needs of their students. The ABC Pantry programs pose little burden to the school but make a significant impact on the lives of its students.
In Southeast Missouri, 1 in 4 children are considered food insecure, meaning they are unsure where their next meal will come from. A Better Childhood programs alleviate the anxiety associated with being food insecure. By removing this stress, ABC Mobile Pantries and ABC School Pantries give students the opportunity to devote their energies toward school and joys of childhood.
Help us provide A Better Childhood to children in Southeast Missouri. With your support children can focus on learning, instead of a growling belly. Invest in the future of Southeast Missouri children and allow them to grow into strong, healthy and productive citizens.
A Better Childhood programs are administered by the Southeast Missouri Food Bank and available to all school districts in the sixteen counties of the Southeast Missouri Food Bank service area.
