|BackPacks For Friday "BFF" Program
The BackPack Program is administered by the Food Bank in thirteen out of the sixteen counties it serves. Research tells us that when children experience even occasional hunger, they may have trouble concentrating, aggressive tendencies, stunted growth and increased likelihood of obesity. BackPacks For Friday is a program that meets the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends. Volunteers fill backpacks with meals and snacks, which are discreetly distributed to children to take home over the weekend and holiday vacation. Children return the backpacks on Monday and the process is repeated throughout the school year. Backpacks are filled with non-perishable, easy-to-open meals, and snacks to feed a family of four for a weekend. A donation of $320 will provide a weekend backpack for one child and their family throughout a 36 week school year.
In 2014, more than 100 students throughout our region will be added to the program. Additionally, two new schools have been added, Ste. Genevieve School District and Perry County District 32.
You can help us feed hungry children--one backpack at a time! Please help us by giving as generously as you can by donating here. You’ll be a partner in the fight against hunger right here in Southeast Missouri, helping children focus on learning and grow into stronger, healthier, more productive citizens.
