A private response to hunger
In the past year, millions of pounds of food were shared with the
Southeast Missouri community, made possible by the donations
and philanthropy efforts contributed to Southeast Missouri Food
Bank. With nearly 70,000 Southeast Missourians struggling with
hunger right now, utilizing all resources from the community is
more important than ever.
"Without the generous support of our individual and corporate
donors, Southeast Missouri Food Bank would not have been
able to serve the nearly 40,000 individuals and families
relying on our services, monthly." said Karen Green, Executiv
e Director of Southeast Missouri Food Bank.
Every dollar donated to Southeast Missouri Food Bank helps provide 7 meals to families in need. Individual contributions to charitable organizations reached an estimated 211.77 billion in 2010 and accounts for 73 percent of total giving in 2010, according to the Giving USA Foundation.
Southeast Missouri Food Bank depends on the contributions of its donors to secure and distribute food to those who are unsure where their next meal will come from. Each year, the Feeding America network of food banks distributes 3 billion pounds of food and grocery products to support feeding programs at approximately more than 62,000 local charitable agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs and Kids Cafes.
