SOUTHEAST MISSOURI MOBILE FOOD PANTRY

WORKING TOGETHER, WE CAN DO MORE TO SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY!

Often, small, rural Southeast Missouri towns lack the resources to provide basic social services to families in need.  Southeast Missouri Food Bank’s Mobile Food Pantry fills the gaps in emergency food assistance.

Each distribution can serve up to 500 people, providing clients with a week’s worth of basic staples, fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and frozen foods. Distributions typically run 3-4 hours and consist of 6,000-8,000 pounds of product delivered in a beverage truck with roll-up bay doors.

REMOVING BARRIERS
Southeast Missouri Food Bank helps remove the barriers to food access and stigma associated with food insecurity by addressing the unique needs in the community and educating the public about the often hidden face of food insecurity.

Through education and outreach efforts, the Mobile Food Pantry helps non-profits and other organizations gain the support needed to help raise funds and engage the community.

TARGETING BY GAP ANALYSIS…
Priority is given to communities where basic needs social services are either lacking or insufficient.  Local poverty levels, number of pantries, and existing Food Bank food distribution in the community help determine new Mobile Food Pantry distribution sites.

Is your agency or organization interested in hosting a mobile food pantry distribution?
A mobile food pantry distribution can be hosted virtually anywhere.  Distributions typically run 3-4 hours and consist of 6,000-8,000 pounds of product delivered in a beverage truck with roll-up bay doors.  SEMO Food Bank's Mobile Pantry Coordinator will prepare the truck, deliver the food, and assist volunteers with set-up and distribution.

How to Organize a Mobile Food Pantry
  • Find a location for distribution.  This may be the parking lot of your agency, a school, or other easily accessible location within the community.  (Make sure you have permission first!)
  • Schedule a day and time for delivery with SEMO Food Bank.
  • Announce the time of distribution to your clients and others in the neighborhood who are in need.
  • On the day of distribution, have 10-12 volunteers on-site to help distribute food and record who received it.
  • After the food is distributed, dispose of all trash and return pallets and unused boxes to trailer bays.
