WHAT IS HUNGER ACTION MONTH?

FeedingAmerica_HAM_facebook-twitter_toaster_1920x1080

September is Hunger Action Month — a annual nationwide campaign designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of hunger in the United States.  For tens of millions of people in America, a daily meal isn’t a choice between different dishes. It’s a choice between food and other crucial needs—like medicine, electricity, or childcare. This September, join us for Hunger Action Month by sharing how you will end hunger.

Help raise hunger awareness by simply wearing orange on Friday, Sept. 15, and tag us with a picture on social using these hashtags:
#semofoodbank, #hungeractionmonth #endhunger

HOW CAN I HELP?

START A VIRTUAL FOOD DRIVE

Virtual food drives help the food bank provide food to the families, children and seniors who are most in need, and dollars can be used to acquire the currently most needed items. Because of its food-buying resources, the food bank can leverage donations to acquire more food than a consumer can for the same amount of money in a grocery store. One in six households in southeast Missouri is food insecure, meaning it doesn’t have the resources to acquire enough food.

VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME

We welcome individuals, families and groups to get involved as volunteers at Southeast Missouri Food Bank. From sorting canned food donations to packing food for children, our volunteers make a big difference in the community. You can also volunteer at one of our local pantries or mobile food distributions. Schedule your time by clicking the link below.

DONATE MONEY

When you donate to Southeast Missouri Food Bank your donation has a big impact —every dollar you donate can help provide four meals to southeast Missouri families facing hunger. As the primary hunger-relief organization in the region, we currently serve around 70,000 individuals every month and distribute nearly a million pounds of food per month. To make a gift by mail, send your check payable to Southeast Missouri Food Bank to P.O. Box 190, Sikeston, MO 63801. A gift my phone can be made by calling 573-471-1818 during regular business hours.

BECOME AN ADVOCATE

Decisions made by our elected officials impact social programs and funding for charitable food assistance. We advocate for systemic changes to permanently eradicate hunger in America. Your advocacy work can help connect community voices, issues and stories that illustrate hunger needs to elected officials and public policy-makers. You can learn more about these issues by following the food bank on FacebookInstagramTwitter or Linked In, or sign up to receive our newsletter or email updates.
